Childhood Obesity
BoHS has proposed three potential paths for addressing obesity issues: 1) Gather and synthesize promising research and best practices in obesity prevention; 2) Replicate and/or adapt successful intervention models that have been effective in reducing obesity among children and youth; and 3) Provide leadership for a collaborative model to design, implement and assess new research and practice initiatives that show promise as effective intervention strategies. If you are interested in joining this working group contact Dr. Mary McPhail Gray, the leader for this BoHS initiative.
Military Families
BoHS supports the existing USDA/DoD Extension and Military Collaboration, particularly the inclusion of projects directed by research, extension, and instructional faculty in the Human Sciences that extend the current USDA/DoD collaboration to directly include competitive research initiatives focused on military and veteran families. If you are interested in joining this working group contact Dr. Brianna Nelson Goff, the leader for this BoHS initiative.
Family Financial Security
It is important that consumers learn coping strategies to sustain community, family and individual well-being in the current economic climate. The recession, unemployment and related issues will be addressed by this working group developing financial education imperatives for extension and education. An official working group for this priority has not been started. However, we do have partenrs as USDA who are anxious to work with a BoHS member on this initiaitve. If you are interested in working with a group of BoHS colleagues to identify key issues and create an action plan in this area, please contact Dr. Carol Kellett.
Human Sustainability

If you are interested in working with a group of BoHS colleagues to identify a key issue and create an action plan in this area, please contact Dr. Soyeon Shim who has volunteered to lead this initiative.
